We have been organising our Health Day for a few years now. This takes place every year and is an important fundamental project at ULT. This year we have already been able to organise it once and also offer a Mental Health Day.
We have been organising our Health Day for a few years now. This takes place every year and is an important fundamental project at ULT. This year we have already been able to organise it once and also offer a Mental Health Day.
Pia Kabitzsch, Lea’s big sister and a psychologist, accompanied her on this journey for a total of 12 days, bringing not only professional expertise but also a lot of heart. Together with our team, she organised the first Mental Health Day – a day that many children will remember for a long time to come.
A total of 70 children, from Year 6 to school leavers, took part in this important event. The workshop, in which the children were actively involved and had the opportunity to talk about important topics in a safe space, lasted just under two hours. After an introduction to the topic by Pia, Bonface divided the children into three groups and gave them a task. They had 20 minutes to summarise what they had learned and prepare a short play. The idea behind it? To directly apply and internalise what has been learned. The day’s topics were wide-ranging and essential for good human coexistence: Consensus, setting boundaries and recognising healthy and unhealthy relationships. For each of the topics, Pia handed out specially designed flyers to serve as a lasting source of information for the children.
The children should develop strategies on how to stand up for themselves in difficult human relationships and how to look after their own health. They should know how important it is to say ‘no’, to protect themselves from addictions and to take responsibility for their own mental health. The children were enthusiastic and their participation made the workshop lively and interactive. The day was a complete success and it was great to see that the children were able to take a lot away with them. We hope that they will be able to apply what they learnt in their lives together and in all human relationships.
Sarah has once again made a major contribution. For the third time, she not only made Health Day financially possible, but also supported it on site – with full commitment and a big heart. In 2023, before her first visit to Kenya, she had already launched a fundraising campaign and was able to use the money to finance the Health Day. Before her second stay, she organised another private fundraising campaign, which made the current and penultimate Health Day possible. Our long-term goal is to be able to organise this event at least twice a year. This would enable us to provide the children with important hygiene products more regularly and give them the best possible foundation for their personal development. Sarah plans to continue this support and to accompany the day in the future whenever she is in Kenya. Thank you very much, dear Sarah!
