This month, we’re once again taking you behind the scenes at UNDER Lea’s TRUST. Samira shares insights into her work with the Update Team, which she co-leads with Sarah. Since 2021, she has been giving children hope through sponsorships and walking alongside them – with lots of heart, beautiful highlights, and the feeling of being part of a real family. ✨

How long have you been volunteering with ULT and what motivates you?

I’ve been part of ULT since 2021. My motivation is clear: giving children the chance of a better future through education. It’s simply such a joy to support them on this journey – and to see how even small steps can make a big difference.

Which projects or tasks are you currently working on, and which team are you part of?

Together with Sarah, I’m Head of the Update Team. I send out updates, make sure all updates go out smoothly, and oversee that everything runs well. I also take care of new sponsorships – which means introducing new children on our website, organizing new sponsorships, and managing existing ones.

How has teamwork and collaboration with other volunteers developed over time, and what positive changes have you noticed?

For me, ULT feels like a small family. I always look forward to our team meetings – simply because it’s so nice to see everyone again. Through ULT, I’ve met many new people and built wonderful friendships. That has been one of the biggest enrichments of my time here.

What are the biggest challenges in your voluntary work, and how do you deal with them?

One challenge for me is balancing my ULT tasks with university and private life.  As it often happens, a lot comes up in all areas at the same time. Luckily, you can always rely on the team – we support each other, and if things get too much, you can always say so and ask for help.

What special highlights or successes have you experienced so far at ULT?

My absolute highlight was earlier this year, when I travelled to Kenya. I finally got to meet everyone in person and just spend time with the children – whether playing ball or when they braided my hair. That was simply wonderful.

Another highlight was our film premiere last year. Almost the whole team was there, and we watched the film together for the very first time. Later, when I was in Kenya, the children got to watch the movie too – and their reaction was priceless. They laughed and cheered so much when they spotted themselves on the screen.
