Team introduction - Madga

This month we introduce you to another member of UNDER Lea's INTERNATIONAL: Magda. With the help of our sponsorship program, she successfully completed school and joined ULT.

What are your tasks at ULT?

In my role at ULT, I am responsible for updating the children, measures following successful completion of school and processing applications for the children supported by ULT.

Why are you involved in ULT?

I was sponsored to attend school and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to graduate. I want to give back to the community and express my gratitude to ULT by joining the organization and contributing to its mission.

What was your favourite subject and what was your hate subject at school?

My favorite subjects were Kiswahili and history. I was particularly good at these subjects, partly because I really liked the teachers. My least favorite subject, on the other hand, was chemistry. I had difficulties with it both in school and with my chemistry teacher’s teaching style, which I didn’t particularly like.

Where do you see ULT in 5 years?

ULT will play a critical role in helping many children in the slums with their education. I also expect ULT to expand its impact by helping high school graduates transition to college through programs like the “Start Into Life” initiative.

Tell a funny/awkward/beautiful story from your school days.

One Friday evening during my time at boarding school is particularly memorable. I was hungry and had resolved to be first in line for dinner, hoping to get the clean part of the meal that everyone wanted. Unfortunately, luck was not on my side that day. The cooks had already mixed the food, so I got a portion of githeri (corn and beans) that was littered with small stones and weevils. Nevertheless, my hunger prevailed and I had to gobble down the food with weevils and stones.
