Volunteering can enrich you in many different ways. Sometimes very unexpected and not only in private, but also professionally. Our volunteer program offers you the opportunity to get to know and experience the Kenyan culture and traditional food. Working with the children is a lot of fun and no two days are the same. You can develop personally and look forward to many impressions and experiences during your tasks.
You will receive a certificate at the end, which certifies your social commitment and you can use very well for job applications.
Every day, a wide variety of tasks come up that can always change spontaneously, which is why there is actually never a fixed daily schedule. On the one hand, the children’s stories are recorded so that we can find sponsors for them. In case of a successful sponsor placement, the children are brought to school by us and of course photos are taken to be able to give their sponsors an update. There may also be “Homevisits” on the daily schedule or the once a week “Food Program”. Here you will help with cooking and serving food. In addition to the tasks described above, many other exciting activities await you, and of course we are always happy to see your own initiative and ideas. During your various tasks you will be on the road in and around the Soweto Slum from Monday to Saturday and will gain many impressions and experiences. Sundays are at your well-deserved free disposal.
All volunteers are hosted by Bonface, our local host and co-founder of ULT. The accommodation is located right next to the Soweto slum where we are working. There are two rooms for volunteers, with 2 and 3 beds each, which can be locked. These rooms are shared with other volunteers. There is a shower area, since there is no running water, you can heat water on the stove and still enjoy a hot shower. A new and cool experience. Toilet and sink are also available. In the morning as well as in the evening we eat in the accommodation, here everybody is always happy about helping hands with cooking and/or washing up. In the same building is also our ULT office, where administrative tasks can be done.
