Team introduction - Rio

Here's what we've been thinking about: ULT (UNDER Lea's TRUST) has, thanks to your help and support, developed significantly since its foundation in 2021 and is growing steadily from day to day. In order to share this with you and to bring you up to date as transparently as possible on who is behind the name ``UNDER Lea's TRUST``, from now until the end of the year a member of our team will introduce themselves personally in each newsletter. We have come up with five questions that each member will answer. This month it is the turn of Rio.

Here's what we've been thinking about: ULT (UNDER Lea's TRUST) has, thanks to your help and support, developed significantly since its foundation in 2021 and is growing steadily from day to day. Hi, my name is Charles Mwangi a.k.a Rio from Nairobi, Kenya. I am 31 years old and very passionate when it comes to dealing with children.

What are your tasks at ULT?

I am the project manager whereby I do all the updates and follow up of all the primary school kids in the program, including going to the school to pay for their school fees and taking pictures for our sponsors.

Why are you involved in ULT?

Having been born and brought up in this slum, I saw the challenges most of us went to attend school during our days. That motivated me to help the kids achieve what I didn’t get when I was a kid. At least by educating them is an investment for us in the future to make them self-lilant.

What was your favourite subject and what was your hate subject at school?

My best subjects in high school were history and biology and my worst subject was chemistry.

Where do you see ULT in 5 years?

In the next 5 years I would like to see ULT grow into a big institution whereby we will have our own primary and secondary school so that our kids will have a friendly space to learn and achieve their goals and dreams.

Tell a funny/awkward/beautiful story from your school days.

So back in 2007 while in high school we went to an inter-school competition whereby I was among the first eleven teams selected to represent our school football team. Being my first time in the team the coach was not confident with me playing as a defender because of my small body but I performed very well in that game and emerged the play of the match and since then my teammates started calling me Rio (Rio Ferdinand was the best central defender in Manchester United those days).
