Team introduction - Marina

Finally we continue with our team introduction! For us, each new team introduction means that we have been able to add another team member to the ULT team. We are very happy about this, because this growth enables us to implement more ideas and to provide education for more and more children. Today we introduce Marina. Marina has already turned the association completely upside down - of course only in a positive sense 🙂 We are already grateful for her incredibly effective and sustainable contribution.

Hello,

my name is Marina Schneider, I come from Aschaffenburg, but now live in Hamburg and have been part of the ULT family since the beginning of the year. My main job is in management consultancy, which is also how I met Lea in the context of a pro bono project. I was immediately taken by ULT’s motivation and commitment and approached Lea shortly afterwards and asked her how I could support her.

What are your tasks at ULT?

I support the association with all kinds of structuring and building issues, such as setting up meeting structures for efficient meetings or the recent restructuring of our projects, where we have re-clustered and re-prioritised the activities. We want to grow as a team and I make sure that the cooperation among us volunteers works and see how the project teams can do their tasks even better.

Why are you involved in ULT?

Already during my school years, I was active in children’s and youth work on a voluntary basis and in the last few years I was always looking for an association in which I could actively participate again. When I met Lea through the Pro Bono project, I was immediately impressed by her doer mentality and her motivation. Lea had told me that she also visits Kenya at least once a year and that she generally has very close contact with Kenya. We talked about the fact that every child should have the same opportunities, no matter what situation they were born into, and so I was drawn into the ULT spell that I asked a short time later if I could also be part of this great community.

What was your favourite subject and what was your hate subject at school?

Whether I liked a subject or not often depended on the teacher, but actually Maths and Latin were among my favourite subjects. In Latin class, we often sang Italian songs and then translated them with our Latin vocabulary.

My least favourite subjects were biology and chemistry. I dropped chemistry as soon as I had the chance. Of course, sport was also a great subject, except when I took it in the first lesson, when I wasn’t fit enough 😀

Where do you see ULT in 5 years?

I think ULT has already built up and achieved so much because everyone is so motivated and committed. For the next 5 years, I would like to see us grow sustainably and welcome many more volunteers to ULT, with whom we can further expand our network and bring many more sponsors on board. If everyone gives a little, we can change so much and give so many more children access to education. I am sure that in 5 years, the school will already be up and running and maybe even another one will be planned.

Tell a funny/awkward/beautiful story from your school days.

I can think of an embarrassing, but also funny story, when I was tested in geography class and it was about some countries that I had to assign. I had to fill in the countries on a blank map and, according to my teacher, I got everything right except for one country. But I was 100% sure that I had got the supposedly wrong country right and a funny discussion ensued until I showed him my transcript as proof and well, I had copied it wrong from the blackboard. The laughter was great, of course 😀
