A strong team for big goals:
Our social media journey is on the rise!

A long search comes to an end – now the real work begins! Or: time to get down to business!

For many months, we’ve been searching for someone to take charge of our social media channels and regularly provide you with updates and insights into our work. We shared our job posting on all our platforms so many times, but it just never worked out. Giving up, however, was never an option for us – we kept sharing the job posting on social media, asked friends if they knew someone, and did our best to keep our channels running in the meantime.

And then? Then a miracle happened, and at the end of last year, a glimmer of hope appeared!
At first, we didn’t dare to get too excited about this light at the end of our “social media problem tunnel.” It all seemed too good to be true. But now, three months later, we can officially say: it’s real, and we couldn’t be happier to share this news with you!

Not only do we now have one volunteer for our social media channels – we’ve got an entire team!!! Amazing – we’re absolutely thrilled. To give you a direct insight into our new team, we spoke to one of the team members, Charlie, to learn more about how the team is organised and the tasks they’re working on.

Who is part of the social media team, and how are your tasks divided?

Currently, there are five of us: Lea, Tina, Lilith, Karen, and me. Lea is a bit quieter; she mainly approves ideas and designs. Karen supports us as a social media expert since she works as a freelance social media consultant. That’s a huge help for us. She always gives our posts the final touch.

Karen, Tina, Lilith, and I share the following tasks: collecting materials, editing videos, and creating captions. Whoever has the time takes care of these to-dos.

I’m the head of the social media team. My job is to ensure everything runs according to plan, assign tasks, and make sure everyone can complete them. I’m also working on optimising processes since our team is still quite new.

What tools do you use in your work?

We recently received an amazing tool – the full version of Swat.io, sponsored by Swat.io themselves. This tool allows us to plan, create, and even schedule posts automatically across various social media platforms using a calendar view.

We also have a shared folder where both we and the Kenyan team can store photos and videos.

How do you plan your content?

Basically, there are two ways we create content. Either there’s a special event happening in Kenya (e.g., school enrolments in January) or in Germany (e.g., the premiere of Slum Reality). In these cases, content is naturally created because both we and the Kenyan team take photos and videos.

Alternatively, we come up with ideas to share information, for example, about the new ULT Academy, with our followers. We then share these ideas with the Kenyan team, and they try to create matching photos and videos. Bonface handles a lot of this, but Moses also contributes many ideas and isn’t camera-shy, which helps us a lot.

What else is part of your responsibilities?

Besides brainstorming ideas, creating content, and posting, we also interact with our followers. We try to personally welcome new followers to establish a direct connection right away. Many people also reach out to us via Instagram to ask how they can support us.

What are your hopes for the future?

In the future, we’d love to collaborate with a company that’s active on social media and/or with influencers. Since our account is still relatively small, the reach of larger accounts would help us a lot.

We’re confident that we can look forward to amazing content in the coming months, especially on Instagram. We’re overjoyed to have this new team on board. A large reach is absolutely essential for our current crowdfunding campaign – after all, we’re buying a school! For more information about the crowdfunding project, check out our website.

In the next newsletter, we’ll tell you more about the school purchase! So stay tuned, follow us on Instagram, and help us change the lives of these children!

Outlook February 2025

Off to Kenya – Our Team on site

In February, Lea, Samira, and Sarah will be travelling to Kenya to make a difference with their help. For Samira, it will be a very special experience as it will be her first time in Kenya. There are some exciting projects planned, with the Academy being the main focus. The three of them will take you along on our Instagram account. 🌍

The Start of Our School Journey

A major milestone we can soon check off: We will be paying the first instalment for our own school in Kenya! 🎉 This brings our dream of sustainably promoting education and opportunities locally much closer. This step means so much to us – and it shows what’s possible with dedication and passion. A big thank you to all our supporters! ❤️

Backoffice in Focus: Boosting Structure and Efficiency!

The hard work continues in the back office to strengthen the foundation for our success. Structure remains a key focus for us in February. At the moment, we are working intensively on expanding an internal FAQ to provide quick solutions, as well as optimising our filing system. These measures ensure efficiency and smooth operations behind the scenes.
