“Hello, my name is Maureen and I’m 11 years old. I go to Grade 6 at Kahawa Primary School and live in Soweto with my mom, dad, and seven siblings. I’m the fifth youngest in our family. My dad works in construction and my mom is a farmer. I often help her on the farm or with chores at home – I like being helpful.
My biggest dream is to become a doctor. I once had a dream that I was helping sick people get better, and since then I knew that’s what I wanted to do. My favorite color is yellow because it’s so bright and cheerful. I love singing and dancing with my friends, and science is my favorite subject because I learn so much about the world. If I could change something in my school, I’d build a fence to keep us safe. My role model is the Kenyan president because he inspires me. I hope I can join junior secondary school soon and keep moving toward my dream. Thank you for supporting me!”
