“Hello, my name is Franklin and I’m 12 years old. I live with my mom and my sister. My dad left us eight years ago and used to be violent. Since then, my mom has been fighting on her own for us. She owns a small beauty salon, but business has been very poor since COVID. Sometimes we didn’t even have enough food, and we’ve been evicted several times because of unpaid rent.
Still, I go to school – and it means the world to me. I love learning new things and making friends. My best experience was discovering so much through school. Sadly, I’m sometimes bullied, but I try to stay strong. My favorite color is blue, and I love playing football. I dream of becoming a pilot – or maybe a doctor – because I want a good life, help my family, and give something back. If I could tell my younger self something, it would be: Study hard and never give up. But right now, I need support to keep studying. Without sponsorship, I won’t be able to go to school – and my dream would end before it starts.”
