My name is Faith and my favorite subject in school is Swahili. I really like writing little stories. When I’m not in class, I love jumping rope. I can do it really fast and sometimes my sisters cheer for me when I jump the longest. When I grow up, I want to open my very own supermarket. I imagine it full of colorful fruits, toys, and nice things for people to buy. I want it to be the kind of place where everyone feels happy when they visit. I live in Nairobi now with my mom, my two sisters, and our baby brother. A while ago, we moved here from our village because my mother was trying to find work. We used to live with my uncle for a little while, but things were hard, and we had to leave.
Now we stay in a place called Soweto. My mother does everything she can to take care of us – she works whenever someone gives her a small job, but sometimes there’s nothing. I haven’t always been able to go to school, but I really want to learn. I want to become someone strong and smart.
