THE MAGICAL MOMENT OF THE MOVIE PREMIERE OF ‘SLUM REALITY – THE STORY OF ULT’

On 21 September 2024, we as the ULT team, together with many of our supporters, were able to experience a wonderful moment that we will never forget. When the lights went out in the hall, Lea took her seat with the team and the screen lit up, the whole team felt that something very special was about to happen that evening.

The start of the evening

The evening began at 7.00 pm with the doors opening for visitors. Our team came together and were finally able to hug each other again after a long time. The cinema gradually filled up. As a small snack before the film screening, we had a classic dish from the Kenyan slums: rice with beans. As a small note, our children had exactly the same dish on exactly the same day at our food programme in Kenya. At 8.15pm – perfect for prime time – our presenter for the evening, Ivo, took to the stage and welcomed the audience. Ivo delighted the entire audience with his warm and cheerful manner. We couldn’t have imagined a better host for this evening – thank you so much Ivo! He was supported on the technical side by the lovely Liya, who had already helped us organise the premiere – thank you so much for your hard work, Liya! After a brief welcome, the time had finally come: the lights in the hall went out, the cinema screen lit up and the first goosebump moment began.

The movie

In around 40 minutes, our documentary ‘Slum Reality – The story of ULT’ tells the inspiring stories of the families in the slum, the idea of ULT and the future vision of us all. The design leaves open what feelings are felt – whether moved, sad, hopeful or inspired to change something. Everything is allowed and may be felt.

But we don’t want to reveal any more at this point. We are currently planning further film screenings so that everyone can see the film – stay tuned. You can register on our website for further information about the film. At the end of the film, not only we in the team were moved. A long standing ovation went through the entire cinema. Pure goosebumps!

The movie talk

Ivo quickly brought Lea onto the stage, who was still particularly moved by the audience’s reaction. After the audience had calmed down and everyone had taken their seats again, they opened the film talk together. Lea told us that we had had our own film in our ‘ideas drawer’ for a long time. To have now realised this idea fills her with pride and gratitude. This gratitude goes above all to our director Patrick, our cameraman Olli and Dan, our editor Thomas, our sound engineering team from Klangstatt Stuttgart and our colour specialist Bow. Thank you so much for creating this wonderful work, for giving the story of ULT and life in the slum a voice and for telling us about your work at the premiere!

It was particularly great for the whole team to get to know so many supporters. The incredible number of people who now support the children and our work is really impressive. It was wonderful to see the people behind the numbers. We were also delighted with the many initial words about the film and the many questions about our work.

What happens now with the movie?

So much time and work has gone into the movie. We don’t want to let it just gather dust in a corner, we would love to show it to the whole world.

But step by step: we are currently in talks with two cinemas that could show the film in their theatres. If the conditions are right for both sides, you will soon be able to see the film in the cinema on several days. To make sure you don’t miss out on this, make sure you sign up for our film newsletter. You will only receive information about the film from us.

The movie and us

Annika and Sarah also appeared in the film alongside Lea and reported on their work for ULT during the shoot. A large part of our team was able to attend the premiere. We also saw the film for the first time at that moment – Lea wanted to give us this great moment together as a team. Our team chat is actually private, but as members of the public relations team, we naturally try to give you as much insight behind the scenes as possible and let you take part in everything. A small excerpt from our team chat after the premiere:

Pauline: You are wonderful!!! And @Lea Sophie Kabitzsch, what a queen you are!!!
I can draw motivation from this evening for a long time.

Lea: So so so sooooooooo beautiful that you were there, my favourite people 🧡
I’m still completely overwhelmed

Samira: It was really lovely 🥰

Nicole: Yes, it was absolutely beautiful 🥰 Thank you for letting me be part of this wonderful team🧡

Rilana: It really looks so beautiful – I was thinking about you and I’m so happy to see how great it went 💖

We as a team have now become a family. Each of us has found our place and is an essential part of our unity. Experiencing this magical moment together went straight to our hearts and will stay there forever.

Outlook November 2024

Company pitch

After this eventful summer, Lea was contacted by several companies who could imagine supporting us in the future, which we were very pleased about. The structure team has therefore decided to optimise the company presentation. Marina and Nico are already in the process of revising our company presentation so that we can present the association and our vision even more clearly and in a more structured way in future pitches.

Full house in the Soweto slum

Jenny from Germany already flew to Kenya as a volunteer in October and will continue to support our team on site in November. However, the kids in the slum are not the only ones who can be happy about her, as our two team members Annika and Marina will also be travelling to Nairobi in November. They will be working on several projects together. Follow us on Instagram to accompany the three girls on their mission.

ULT Team Meeting

Restructuring of the update team

Our update team has grown! Christmas is approaching and in order to be able to cope with the volume of updates in future, the team will sit down together in November and revise the concept. Responsibilities will be redistributed and the dispatch process optimised. In this way, we want to ensure that updates are sent out to sponsors promptly after they have been created and do not remain ‘lying around’ for too long.
