Group outings for the upperclassmen are designed to strengthen a sense of community and career talks are used to highlight future prospects. Trips to the Giraffe and Elephant Centre are designed to give our primary school children their first contact with native African animals and to learn about their lives and behavior through play. The annual Pool Day takes place with all age groups, as this is recurrently the biggest community wish of the children. Many of our children are sitting in school with toothache and skin eczema &#8211; it is hard to learn this way. As described in the main story, our volunteers Mia, Nila and Hannah were able to hold the &#8220;Beauty &amp; Health Day&#8221; thanks to the numerous donations to the ULT Happy CLUB. This enabled the children to show each other how to brush their teeth and wash properly. In this way, they learned the basics of hygiene through play and were able to feel beautiful. However, since this is not completed in one day, we would like to further develop this action day as a project. For this we need your support. Hygiene products should be part of the basic supply of the children, but this can not always be guaranteed in the slum. We are incredibly proud of them! As a token of our appreciation, the ULT Happy CLUB would like to take graduation photos with the graduates. ULT Happy CLUB is facilitating both the photos and a gown that we are purchasing for this event. Due to the worldwide influenced economic and social crisis in Kenya, the food shortage and poverty has increased. For this reason, the Food Program is experiencing higher crowds every Saturday, resulting in higher costs. The ULT Happy CLUB is intended to fill this gap temporarily and to cope with the current situation. In the meantime, some children had to go home sad because they did not get a meal anymore. The money of the food program was no longer sufficient for the large number of children. In total, five houses burned down. One of them was the house of Gabriel, who is supported by the school sponsorship program to be able to go to school. Gabriel, his little sister Emily, and his mother lost everything that night, including all their furniture, clothing, and Gabriel&#8217;s school uniform. Currently, the family is temporarily staying with a friend, but where they have a room that is far too small for all three of them. We are very grateful that they have temporary housing. However, this is obviously not a permanent solution. We would like Gabriel and his family to be able to move back into their own home as soon as possible. The estimated cost of rebuilding their home is about 740 \u20ac. Originally, the Poolday was planned for April. We had to postpone it to 05.06.2023 due to cold temperatures and persistent cloud cover. On this day we had very nice weather &#8211; it was very warm and the cooling down in the pool did everyone good. The ULI team, i.e. Bonface, Rio and Margret, was there. In addition, our volunteers from our new programme &#8220;START into LIFE&#8221; helped. Among others, Agnes, Magda and Moses were there. They assisted the team in looking after the children and making sure they were safe to play and swim in the pool.<br \/>\nThe pool is about 25 minutes walk from the slum. As we also had many small children with us, the walk took about 45 min. Our children get along so well with each other that even a longer walk is fun and enjoyable. The anticipation of the pool was so great that no one complained about the long walk. Thanks to the help of our volunteers, we were able to provide the necessary safety for the children both in the pool and on the way. The children spent most of their time in water fights, where there was a lot of shrieking and laughter. However, they also enjoyed swimming in the pool and spending time together. We also provided snacks for the children, so we ended up with a cost of about 40,000 KSh for the entrance fee and snacks. Converted, this is about 260 \u20ac. For the children, of course, also very pleasing: no carer stayed dry \ud83d\ude0a<br \/>\nA day full of fun came to an end, with the wish to be able to participate again next year. Many of our children are sitting in school with toothache and skin eczema &#8211; it is hard to learn this way. As described in the main story, our volunteers Mia, Nila and Hannah were able to hold the &#8220;Beauty &amp; Health Day&#8221; thanks to the numerous donations to the ULT Happy CLUB. This enabled the children to show each other how to brush their teeth and wash properly. In this way, they learned the basics of hygiene through play and were able to feel beautiful. However, since this is not completed in one day, we would like to further develop this action day as a project. For this we need your support. Hygiene products should be part of the basic supply of the children, but this can not always be guaranteed in the slum. We are incredibly proud of them! As a token of our appreciation, the ULT Happy CLUB would like to take graduation photos with the graduates. ULT Happy CLUB is facilitating both the photos and a gown that we are purchasing for this event.
